Howdie Mickoski on the Nile, 2004 Updated January 3, 2009 In humanity's ancient past, men and women looked beyond the bubble of standard reality and the nature of the mind to peer into the great secrets of: life-death, time-space, illusion-manifestation, matter-void. So magnificent, and at the same time shocking, was what they found that they were determined to make this understanding universally available. Great ancient sites such as Giza, Teotihuacan, Avebury, Serpent Mound, Ankhor etc., were constructed as portals not just to other times, but to other realities of understanding. With the passage of time, this knowledge became harder and harder to obtain as forces within the universe "arrived" to change the focus of the game played here. Human life was getting technology, but no one was checking how this impacted their very humanity. Yet the more the forces attempted to eradicate the knowledge of the Self, the more those in possession of it endured more sufferings and hardships to keep it from being lost, and to find better symbolic descriptions to act as a beacon for those who wish to follow: from hieroglyphic tomb paintings in Egypt, to Taoist and Greek writings, Gnostic gospels right to myths, legends and modern fairy tales- each if symbolically deciphered unlock a doorway to a new and amazing process- sometimes also called The Work. By the middle ages the secret was driven so far underground (mostly by the emerging religions who were looking to monopolize the spiritual world that killing and torture became the prime weapon to destroy anything old and wise) that the code (referred to as Hermetic- of Hermes) had to go even deeper into the obscure symbolism of alchemy and secret societies. In tribal culture, white invaders were destroying anyone with known wisdom thus shamans (Sioux, Navajo, Celtic , dogon, incan, Mayan, Siberian etc) had to often sacrifice their own lives so that one person with that knowledge could survive and pass it on to the next generation. It is this heritage that I too belong to, knowing the gift of what was given, and learning the responsibility of not letting it be lost. Over the last 50 years this knowledge has become to come out in a much more open way, as certain elements have felt that "time was running out" for keeping it all secret any longer. Even still, with so much available, the secret protects itself. Few to start with have nay interest in an inquiry on such a topic, but to make matters worse a whole new industry has spun up with it- people using bits of what they find as a way of improving their personal standing with importance, finances, followers. Unfortunately for ever 1 real proponent of the ancient traditions, there are 1000 imitators. Worse the imitators, because the say what people want to hear or pry on people's biggest fears and wants- become the ones that get thrust on the pedestal as suggested that these we should follow. And thus their words in fact get people to stop looking at the very places in the very manner to get the answers they so hope to find. This is true not just of satsang circuits, ashrams but even today on native Indian reservations where "what's in it for me medicine men" far outweigh the old universal service shamans. The Old Latin phrase "caveat emptor" (let the buyer beware) is most pertinent today in the field of religion and spirituality. Yet the old secret can also not be eradicated, for it is within you, or better said, is the essence of what you are, what the universe is. One needs to look no further than where they find themselves this moment, while spots upon the earth carefully constructed by our ancestors still have open doorways to this realm waiting: Chartres Cathedral, Luxor Temple, Glastonbury Tor, Tiahuanaco, standing stone circles, medicine wheels, renaissance or Greek paintings and artwork. The doorway to a stupendous mystery is all around us, but so few really want to look for that door, the cover remains for most- in fact the ones people deem the most spiritual are usually the ones who are least likely to be looking for the door. Those going through crisis are in fact looking for that door, even if they don't realize it at the time. This web site, through a few revisions during the past couple of years, is now for those who REALLY want to lift the veil of Isis, to see What Is. And What Is may not be what you hope it is going to be. Sacrifice will be required, make no doubt about it- not to me or anyone else of course, but to yourself: in fact what is actually sacrificed is so high, so few really follow through to the conclusion, instead stopping at a place they deem "close enough" so that they can write a book and get rich, or proclaim to the world through satsangs how elevated they are- and get rich, or just have followers server them for the rest of their life. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, not in the Hermetic tradition. Yet if the Hermeticist inside of you is calling out that "close enough" is not "good enough", you know it is an all or nothing- or better all FOR nothing- game, and you still want in, no matter the cost, you have to know, you can no longer stand being in the dark Then I say, Welcome... "The name alchemy inevitably brings to mind medieval cults depicting their gloomy laboratory of the ancient adept. He is surrounded by retorts and crucibles, while pumping bellows keeps the furnace flowing with red heat. The alchemist himself, in his long flowing cape, looks expectantly at the ladle of the molten metal with which he is working. Invariably, there are astrological representations of the sun, moon, and stars within the picture. Ostensibly our adept is engaged in a highly secret task of transmuting base metals like Lead into the purest Gold- and that is exactly what the initiates of the middle ages wanted everyone to think."
