MEMORIES OF THE INFO BOARD
My twenty year high school reunion was last weekend. I didn’t attend. I was 3000 miles away, but even if I had been right around the corner I am not sure I would have made it. I mean after you have read the things that appear on this site, how does one fit in with a “normal” social event?
It was nice to see the photographs of everyone who did go. In viewing the photographs I felt my mind drift back to a time long ago.
There was a memory, of 1984. The Info Board. A teacher had let one blackboard in his room be used by some grade 13 students to write their daily thoughts on. For some reason at the end of 1983, with then graduating, he asked me- a grade 9 student- if I wanted to take over their space. I said yes.
Starting the first day of the next school year- 1983-84 I wrote a daily words onto the Info Board. It may have been on something in the news, something at school, some sporting event, or just something I was thinking about that lent to my rambling. You might say, I had one of the world’s first blogs! There used to be all sorts of notes and messages added in the course of the day that next morning I would review before posting again. A blog in chalk.
It is funny to think back to that time. Of course there is a part of “me” that wishes I had kept all of those messages from so long ago- as a way to see what the 14 year old me thought was interesting for a blog. But then again I look at this very website, and see that in some way the Info Board was a trial run for what you see here. And ok, if a blog ever comes up, I will just for the sake of history call it the Info Board. But I can see that some energetic force was already present then, training the form for what would come- though without some looking it would be hard to notice the connection-and nearly impossible at the time.
That made me wonder. What other little aspects of the things this little “me” did back in high school were just fertilizer for something- and what is waiting to blossom?
